TEDDY BEARS

Teddy bears have had their name since, around the turn of the century, a cartoon appeared showing that intrepid hunter, President TheodoreRoosevelt, sparing the life of a bear cub. Ever since then,stuffed toy bears have been known as teddy bears. Butstuffed animals had been the special friends of children for many generations before that time.

 

Materials

'/zyard (.5m) of 54"-wide (13 7-cm) medium brown fake fur

(medium or short pile) fabric

Brown heavy-duty sewing thread

Polyester fiber for stuffing

 

2 brown and black W -diameter (16-mm) safety eye

2 yards (1.9 m) thin black yarn

1 yard (.95 m) of 1 "-wide (2.5-cm) red ribbon

 

Cutting the fabric

 

1. Making the pattern and cutting out the fabric. Enlarge the pattern pieces to the scale indicated and cut them out following the instructions. Pin the pattern pieces to the wrong side of the fabric, so the arrows are aligned on the lengthwise grain and the nap is running down from the top of each pattern piece. Cut out allowances.
