Ginghams and cotton fabrics will be found in any draper's
shop.
They come in bright colours and patterns, 36" (91 cm)
wide. These
shops also keep a limited range of nylon fur fabrics which
are 52"
(1 m 32 cm) wide and the price depends on the thickness
of the
pile.
Handicraft shops will have most of the essential materials
and
accessories needed for toymaking. They will have a good
variety
of nylon fur fabrics and baizes (a fabric based on a cotton
and
rayon mixture) 48" (1 m 22 cm) wide and about the same
price
as the nylon, and also a selection of felts, sold in squares
of 9"
(23 cm) or by the yard (91 cm). Make sure when buying fur
fabric
that it is not jersey-backed material, because when the
work is
ready for stuffing it will pull into an odd shape due to
the pliability
of jersey. Also when choosing felts, it is wise to pay that
bit extra,
to get a good firm felt.
