METHOD OF ENLARGING
For a profile toy, one cannot afford the refinements of
the original
drawing. It is necessary to streamline the curves to make
them
suitable for a pattern. First of all, the profile horse
will stand on
two wide legs only. The shaping of the head, the saddle,
and legs
is overlooked and brought into straight lines (Diagram 4
marked by
straight lines). It is also advisable to move the head back.
If it is
left in its original position and adapted into the pattern,
when
finally stuffed, the head, due to the weight of filling,
will hang
forwards and sag downwards. After these alterations are
completed,
the drawing is then ready for enlarging (Diagram 5). The
easiest way
to enlarge is to measure the sketch as in Diagram 4, from
the base to
the top of the head; in this case it reads 3" (7-5
cm).
