Plate 1 Profile Horse made in very small black-and-white
check gingham. The
brightening touches are added by tying a red ribbon round
the body with a
black bobble braid, red ric-rac and white braid round the
hooves.
This basic illustration of the horse will then be used for
making a
profile toy. For a beginner this is a necessary step to
learn the art
of "seeing" the toy in three dimensions.
The more prototypes of profile toys you can make the better;
particularly if each of them represents a different animal.
This
way you will gain experience and be prepared to launch on
more
advanced toys later on. Also, being quick to construct and
make,
these toys will give the student a feeling of achievement,
and what
is most important, they will build up confidence necessary
for the,/
timid and the frightened starters to get on with the job.
