It is advisable, however, to have some idea of the bone
structure
of the creature you are going to make, as this will give
your toy
an identifiable shape. Further, it is also very useful to
have a
photograph or drawing in front of you while making up the
patterns and, later on, during the process of stuffing;
most
important when finishing the face, positioning the eyes,
ears and
nose. Also bear in mind that if you make a toy for a small
child or
a baby, it is not the skill of the pattern which will attract
the
attention but the colours and the feel of the toy.
Taking into consideration that one is a beginner, a horse
is a good
toy to start on. Although easy to make into an elementary
toy, in
later stages of development, it is by far the most difficult.
To make
it well and true to shape, one will be able to learn the
necessary
refinements in designing complicated patterns.
