Remember to make a card pattern from the cut-out ear, allowing
y (0-5 cm) round for sewing. Add this pattern to the other
set of
profile horse patterns.
Cut four ears in material, arrange in pairs and machine
round,
leaving the base of the triangle open. Turn each ear right
side out
and finish off the raw edges of the base by hand.
Sew on eyes. Using strong buttonhole thread doubled and
a thin,
long darning needle, start working from the opposite side
of the
head to the eye. Insert the needle in the place where the
ear is
going to be, through the head, coming out at the eye position.
Pull
the thread through the loop on the button and push the needle
back through the same hole back to the ear, coming out about
y
(0-5 cm) from the position of entry. Pull on the thread,
so that the
eye is well embedded in the head, almost forming an eye-socket.
Tie a knot in the thread and finish off by sewing a few
stitches
before cutting off the thread (Diagram 9). Sew on the ears.
Now look at your assortment of braids and ribbons and experiment
as much as you like. Don't be afraid of using unorthodox
trimmings,
providing the ultimate result is good.
