MATERIALS
The most attractive feature about profile toys is that one can make
them in any scrap of material, providing bright and gay colours
are used. It is, however, worth while remembering that fabrics
with large patterns will be unsuitable, as the design will be lost
on a small toy. For a first attempt in toymaking avoid using fur
fabrics. These will be too difficult to handle at this stage of
experience. Cotton flock is, of course, the best for stuffing, but if it
is unobtainable locally, any stuffing will do except plastic shavings
and cotton wool. Eyes can be made by sewing on a pair of black
buttons y (1 cm) in diameter each, or by cutting out felt discs of
the same size. The finishing decorations are left entirely to the
imagination of the student. Ric-rac, lampshade braids, ribbons and
wool, may be used to enhance the charm of the toy.
