At this stage it is a help to cut the patterns in tissue
paper and pin
them together before committing yourself to a design which
may
well be wrong in proportions. By doing this, you will immediately
realise that the feet have no soles. This, of course, is
wrong because
you must bear in mind that the stuffing has to be closed
in, in
order not to fall out.
Cut out two soles for the feet, each rectangular in shape,
one side
equal to the width of the leg and the other side—the
width of the
gusset. Your set of basic patterns for a profile horse is
now finished
and it consists of two body pieces, two gussets—one
under body and
one outer body gusset—and two soles. The ear pattern
is worked
out during finishing.
