Making the Head and Face - Shaping the face

The doll maker will use darts to control and shape the face. If we assume that the face is the bulk, the doll maker can control it by inserting darts around it. These darts are calculated to accentuate the forehead, cheeks and chin. They are 1.3cm deep and 0.5cm wide. The first dart is placed 1.3cm from the central line of the face to be followed by two darts at 3.8cm distance and a fourth at 3.2cm away from the third.

The doll maker will notice that the first three darts point towards the centre of the face and the fourth is almost upright and is put there to emphasize the chin. On a larger doll, more darts are necessary to in the side of the face.
