Making the Back Body

The back body is the same as the front body in shape with two main differences. The doll maker should cut an outward curve at the arm cut and draw a straight line at the ankle. These differences can be explained in the following way: Since the front arms are set on a dart to the front body, to compensate the doll maker must add extra material at the back so that the arms can bend towards the front of the body, otherwise they will be inline with the sides instead of sweepinf forwards.

As to the ankles, the doll maker is attempting to have the doll stand firmly on the ground. By leaving a dart in the front of the body pattern and a straight line at the back, the centre of gravity is brought forward over the feet.
