Clip the neck edge. Fold under 1.75 cm (^ in) on each centre front edge of the collar, so that they align with the centre front opening edges. Press. Fold the collar over to the wrong side of the garment. Turn under a 1.75 cm (^g in) hem, and hem the collar to the neck edge, along the seam- line (9b). Press.
Blindstitch Hand hemming on binding and hems. Use a fine needle and thread which matches the fabric. The stitches should only just catch the fabric, and be almost invisible on the right side. Staystitch A row of long straight machine stitches worked on the curved edges of pattern pieces, 3 nun (YQ in) from the edges. This is to prevent the fabric from stretching during construction. Tailor's tacks Loops made with a needle and tacking thread, to mark the position of balance dots on the fabric. Sew through the dot on the paper pattern into the fabric two or three times, leaving long loops of thread. Clip the loops and tear away the paper pattern. Topstitch Machine stitches 3 mm (^ in) from the finished edge of the garment, sewing on the right side. Align the inner edge of the sewing foot with the edge of the garment.
