The most suitable fabrics for children's clothes are those which wash and wear well. Pure cotton and wool are comfortable and hard-wearing. Closely woven fabrics such as denim, drill, cotton gingham and poplin are also hard-wearing. Fabrics with a pile, such as corduroy or velvet, are attractive for special occasions but not practi- cal for everyday or playwear. For pyjamas and dressing gowns it is important to choose non- flammable fabrics.
