Making a button-and-loop fastening When you have inserted the loops into one seam 10 edge of an opening (see above), it is important to position the buttons correctly on the opposite edge, so that the opening meets edge to edge when fastened and does not gape open. Place the two edges together and press the loops across the opening. Mark the position for the button at the farthest point the loop will extend to without pulling on the fabric, and just inside the loop. Sew on the button (3).
