How to make a blouse for your girl
Page 1 - Page
2
You will need:
1.70 m (2 yd) of 90 cm (36 in) width fine cotton
2 pieces of 5 mm (^4 in) width elastic
2 button bases or 2 matching buttons
Matching thread
The blouse in this project is for a 69 cm (27 in)
chest. The pattern is on page 57. See pages 8-9
for grading to another size.
This blouse is an easy-fitting summer style
with raglan sleeves. The neckline is gathered and
has a narrow ribbon tie eased through it, which
ties at the centre front in a bow.
Because of the gathers around the neck and
the full sleeves, a fine fabric is essential if the
blouse is to hang well. Suitable fabrics would be
Swiss lawn, cotton organdie or cotton crepon.
Preparation
Prepare the pattern (see page 7). Cut out the main
pieces on the straight grain of the fabric. Cut two
pieces 5 cm x 64 cm (2 in x 25 in) for the ribbon
tie.
Cut two strips on the cross for the neck casing,
5 cm x 41 cm (2 in x 16 in), and two strips for the
cuffs, 5 cm (2 in) wide by the required wrist size.
Add 1.5 cm ( in) seam allowance to each end
of the cuffs. Also cut two loop pieces on the cross
(see page 59).
Keep small offcuts of the material to cover the
button bases (see page 10).
The front facing
With right sides together, pin, tack and machine
the front facing to the opening on the centre front
of the blouse. Clip at the base of the opening.
Turn and press.
Finish the facing by turning under a 3 mm (^ in)
hem on the edges to the wrong side. Machine.
Joining the sleeves to the front and back
With right sides together, pin, tack and machine
the sleeves to the front and back at the armhole
seams, matching balance marks. Clip the curves
(1). Press the seams open.
