Lace Cap - The Ties and Rosettes

1. Cut four 12" (30.5-cm) lengths of the 5/8”-wide (16-mm) ribbon, two for the ties and two for the rosettes.

2. Fold up the end of one piece of ribbon 5/8” (16 mm), then fold the ribbon in half lengthwise, covering the end, and stitch the long edges together with five 1/8” long (9.5-mm) running stitches, spaced 1/8” (9.5 mm) apart.

3. Pull the ribbon up tightly into folds along the thread to form the rosette, and secure the folds with two or three fastening stitches. Repeat to make the second rosette.

4. Attach the ties and rosettes to the cap by placing a rosette over one end of each tie at each of the front corners of the cap, and make several tiny stitches through the center of the rosette to secure all three layers together.

5 . With three-strand lengths of embroidery floss, make a cluster of four or five white and four or five pale-green French knots through the center of each rosette to hide the earlier stitches and to fasten the folds tightly Trim the ends of the ties on the diagonal.
